What You'll Do

As a senior member of this team, your work will directly influence services and products at the highest levels of private, not-for-profit and public sector organisations in the Asia-Pacific region. We value bold ideas and respect divergent thinking in a culture built around collaboration, cooperation and mutual support. We are building a unique team within a growing professional services organisation, a team that will change the way our consultants and clients approach complex problems together. This role will help to write the future of BCG for the next generation. The role gives you the opportunity to make your impact authentic, real and profound with the backing of BCG’s strategic and analytic horsepower.

We are looking for experienced and versatile designers who have developed deep specialisation and leadership capabilities in one of two core disciplines:
  • Ethnographic research
  • Service Design

As a leader of a design specialisation, you will be expected to:
  • Lead a Human Centred Design discipline as a thought leader, evangelist, coach, trainer and mentor within the team and broader company
  • Create and nurture a dynamic design-led culture that allows team members to thrive
  • Develop, maintain and refine methodologies, tools, templates and assets for your discipline
  • Plan and lead design engagements at client sites
  • Participate in the preparation of bids in collaboration with BCG consultants
  • Take a hands-on leadership role in multiple agile cross-functional teams of strategic designers, user researchers, UX/UI designers, developers, consultants, architects and clients
  • Manage outsourced specialist agencies and freelancers
  • Plan and lead facilitation exercises to support BCG consultants as an expert advisor

As a member of the Human Centred Design team more generally, you will be expected to have a range of responsibilities:

Strategy and research:
  • Conduct quantitative research investigations that help strategically frame, validate or challenge other forms of research
  • Plan and conduct ethnographic research and contextual design investigations to understand customer behaviours, pain points, needs and aspirations
  • Contribute to deep trend analysis and research of interesting exemplars in the marketplace
  • Identify insights from customer research and market analysis
  • Bring your research to life through personas, customer journeys, insight-opportunity frameworks, system maps, stories and scenarios
  • Plan and conduct research engagements to evaluate the team’s design concepts, including usability evaluations, service simulations, role plays, public betas and A/B testing

Collaborative design and development:
  • Contribute unique ideas within multidisciplinary workshops, meetings and immersion sessions.
  • Using divergent design thinking techniques for the conceptual development of products, services and/or physical connected form-factors
  • Converge innovative ideas to a set of digital and tangible products, services and/or physical connected form-factors in partnership with consultants, product managers and engineering
  • Communicate design ideas using techniques, including product concepts, service models, customer journeys, industrial designs, system maps and/or infographics
  • Iteratively design, test and refine disruptive products and services

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

We recognise that design is still an emerging field and that experienced designers come from a range of backgrounds. Ideally, you would have:
  • A Bachelor or Master’s degree, preferably in a design-related discipline
  • A minimum of 8 years experience across a range of Human Centred Design activities such as user research, user experience design, service design, prototyping, visual design, user interface design, interaction design or policy implementation design
  • Mastery of either ethnographic research techniques or strategic/service design techniques but advanced skills in both
  • Experience leading teams of designers embedded in multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience working within both waterfall and Agile/SCRUM methodologies
  • Experience in analytical evaluation of existing user experience data and identification of areas for improvement
  • Experience in translating user research and usability test findings into iterative product solutions
  • Working within multidisciplinary teams of product managers, developers, strategic, visual, and motion designers
  • Organizational skill, self-motivation and resourcefulness
  • Highly passionate about design, balanced with a pragmatic approach to dealing with clients
  • The ability to think big whilst being detail oriented and delivery focused
  • Outgoing, personable, sociable and easy-going
  • Open to criticism from your team to benefit project development
  • Always eager to learn and to share knowledge
  • The ability to deal with pressure within a fast paced corporate environment
  • An excellent communicator (verbally and written) with confidence and experience in public speaking
  • Capable of inspiring colleagues and clients
