Practice Area Profile

BCG’s Energy practice helps companies navigate an increasingly complex business climate. The practice covers the Oil & Gas and Power & Utilities sectors. We also have deep knowledge in Energy transition and Sustainability, Energy Trading and Risk Management and Energy Engineering and Services. Our projects typically apply BCG’s core consulting skills in functional areas such as, digitalization, strategy, organisation or performance improvement, but in the distinctive environment of Energy. We also address projects that touch upon more operational or technical challenges, which we deliver through our expert consultants, occasionally partnering with external specialists. We work with the senior leaders of leading international and national oil companies, service providers, utilities, regulators and financial institutions. The Energy Practice has enjoyed rapid and sustained annual growth over several years, representing about 10% of BCG’s global business volume.Worldwide over 300 Partners, Principals and Project Leaders focus in the Energy space, supported by a large group of Energy experienced and trained Consultants and Analysts, many with pre-BCG industry experience. We are well known for our long history of cutting-edge research and thought leadership. Consulting with BCG ensures you work on the biggest issues being tackled by senior management, with a wide variety of experiences across different clients, topics and geographies.

What You'll Do

As a Consultant, you will be part of and collaborate in BCG project teams consisting of high performing members with different backgrounds, conduct detailed fact-based analyses and develop state of the art strategic solutions.

As an Expert affiliated to the Oil & Gas sector, you will be a core member of BCG’s Energy practice working alongside some of the world’s top minds in the industry. Following your expertise you will also significantly contribute to the development of our Upstream or Downstream practices, and support their ambitious growth targets. You will work on some of the most important players in the Oil & Gas industry in Middle East, partnering with Operators, Governments and Service Companies. The majority of your time will be spent leading and developing BCG teams composed of members of different backgrounds collaborating with you on those projects. You will also dedicate time to further develop and deepen BCG’s expertise in Oil & Gas, and to support BCG Partners in business development initiatives.

  • Play a leading role in the growth of our Oil & Gas practices through case execution, client development, and intellectual property & product creation
  • Execute and provide expertise and support to Upstream and Downstream transformation projects within the Oil & Gas sector for our key clients in the Middle East
  • Work jointly with BCG and client project teams, bringing expertise to the team and to the client on site
  • Provide intellectual leadership for the project teams by generating key ideas and conceptual frameworks to guide research and analysis
  • Actively support our business development efforts in client meetings and industry conferences
  • Contribute to the creation of BCG’s intellectual capital on the topic by positioning papers, studies, insights from case experience, tools and products
  • Dedicate time to develop own and BCG’s expertise by developing and driving the content agenda to the next level
  • Provide mentorship and support to consultants ensuring continuous individual development

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Masters or MBA degree is essential
  • Strong academics from a top-tier institution
  • A minimum 7- 10 years’ experience in the industry, a combination of industry and consulting experience (preferred), with a focus on the following:
    • Experience working with/for well-functioning, advanced and global businesses
    • Experience at a leading E&P and/or Downstream operator, at a NOC or at a leading Oilfield Service Company
    • A strong track record and a close network of professional contacts at key clients within the energy sector
    • Experience working within the Oil & Gas space, especially within oil upstream and downstream
    • Deep understanding of Oil & Gas operations and value chain
    • Experience running large programs, transforming business units e.g. cost optimization, digital strategy

Professional Skills

  • Analytical and structured with excellent problem solving skills (hypothesis driven approach etc.)
  • Advanced quantitative analysis skills
  • Excellent communication and persuasion skills to interact at high levels and manage stakeholders
  • Superior business sense and good ability to work beyond core operations practice areas
  • Excellent written and spoken English (Arabic would be desirable, but not essential)
  • Excellent track record of project/team leadership and related achievements

Expertise is of vital importance to BCG and our clients and the ECT is a core pillar of BCG’s strategy. Our clients expect BCG to help tailor solutions to their specific needs, and increasingly expect us to bring deep industry and functional expertise to the table. Our continued investments in knowledge and expertise have been a critically important driver of our success. The growth and development of the ECT cohort is a core component of these investments. The track enables individuals to bring significant value to BCG with relevant operational or technical experience in specific fields, usually gained outside of BCG in either industry, academia or specialised consulting.
