Practice Area Profile
What You'll Do
The practice is currently looking for an individual at the Expert Consultant level who has significant experience in application architecture in downstream operations. A qualified individual will play a critical role in enriching firm expertise on this topic and in bringing this expertise to our clients. Ideal candidates would have previously worked in a similar role within the refinery space. Candidate must have 6-10 years’ experience working in refineries and/or petrochemical plants or any other downstream environment.
Roles & Responsibilities
Providing technical/ functional expertise to client projects
- Work closely with different sections of client operations (Operations, Maintenance, Commercial, Planning etc.) to understand the architectural behavior and data interface requirements
- Aligning functional and business requirements – developing data and solution interface accordingly
- Identification of possible risk & challenges and suggesting the solution changes (architectural changes) accordingly
- Leading Application portfolio modernization and AI initiatives
Lead and support execution of oil downstream operations projects to lead client transformations and drive tangible impact to our clients bottom line:
- Responsible for the overall methodology
- Work jointly with BCG and client project leaders, bring expertise to the team, both on issues specific to the industry and on questions asked by the client
- Support multiple case teams, co-lead modules, especially those in need for broad experience and hands-on approach
- Ensure the quality of the work, and the relevance of any synthesis and recommendations. Challenge work in progress, results and re-orient any analyses if needed
- Support in change management process, help change stick in our clients
- Enable and develop capabilities in client organizations
Build expertise in downstream operations within BCG and increase BCG’s profile externally:
- Develop and contribute to BCG’s intellectual capital – work on BCG content projects to create new techniques and/or capture new ideas
- Build and maintain “fact packs” related to core telecoms topics so there is an ever-available library of educational materials for internal and client usage
- Responsible for supporting refining sector in writing external reports, papers, and social media contributions of its partners in concert with the Energy practice’s marketing lead
- Identify conferences for BCG’s attendance and help coordinate our participation

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)
The ideal candidate possesses:
- 6-10 years of experience in a similar role
- Deep expertise in Energy downstream projects and applications used in the industry; Previous experience in Refinery is preferred
- Well versed with the different operations and maintenance application used in refinery (such as: Data historian, ASPEN IP 21, PHD, LIMS, SAP etc.)
- Working experience in different Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
