Today, we work closely with clients to embrace a transformational approach aimed at benefiting all stakeholders—empowering organizations to grow, build sustainable competitive advantage, and drive positive societal impact.

Our diverse, global teams bring deep industry and functional expertise and a range of perspectives that question the status quo and spark change. BCG delivers solutions through leading-edge management consulting, technology and design, and corporate and digital ventures. We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, fueled by the goal of helping our clients thrive and enabling them to make the world a better place.

Practice Area Profile

The Corporate Finance & Strategy Practice (CFS) combines rich expertise in corporate strategy concepts with a management methodology designed to create sustainable value-add for BCG clients. Our team provides extensive experience in planning and implementing corporate transactions including merger & acquisition deals and divestitures. We deliver analytic approaches that allow senior management to effectively deal with challenges such as generating growth, managing a portfolio of assets, forming a world-class finance organization, understanding risk, and responding to the way capital markets assess companies today. Taking swift action in turning around and restructuring a business for long-term survival is also part of our offering.

What You'll Do

WHAT WE NEED

Uncertainty is rampant in today’s world – and we have a unique opportunity to help our clients become better prepared for whatever the future holds.  We need an expert who can help clients build competitive advantage under uncertainty using a wide variety of approaches and tools, and work with senior stakeholders at BCG to help build our Uncertainty Advantage topic and the next generation of those approaches, tools and people.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

You will serve as an expert focused on helping clients build an Uncertainty Advantage, and helping BCG build the Uncertainty Advantage topic, juggling a wide variety of activities and roles.  Some of these will include:

Client Service (~50%): you will serve as an active member of BCG project teams to help bring an Uncertainty Advantage to our clients, using a variety of tools and approaches (including megatrends, foresight, scenarios, wargaming, risk management, but also an overall Uncertainty Advantage framing).  This will be on Uncertainty Advantage branded projects, but could also be an important piece of bringing UA to growth projects, strategic planning projects, shareholder value projects and more.  You will at times be a hands-on “project manager” staffed 50-100% for specific periods of time (e.g. several weeks to several months), overseeing project teams and ensuring top-notch work.  At other times you will engage with BCG teams and clients as an “expert advisor” with smaller time allocation, which could include facilitating workshops, advising on content creation and solution generation, and otherwise working with the project team and client.

Business development (~10%): you will support business development, bringing Uncertainty Advantage to a wide variety of settings and supporting proposal work.  You could focus on specific types of uncertainty you are familiar with (e.g. cyber, climate, geopolitical, technological, economic, other) and/or sectors where you have experience.  We seek entrepreneurs with an interest in growing the business.

Topic development (~40%): you will work closely with the senior team leading the Uncertainty Advantage topic to grow the business.  This means helping develop new publications, IP, tools and approaches, and then ensuring the internal and external promotion of those as well.  As we have marketing and project successes, you will help the topic grow by sharing and building upon them, developing and giving presentations, raising awareness and ensuring Uncertainty Advantage remains a priority within BCG and in the corporate and public-sector world.  You will work closely with our knowledge team as well, helping oversee them as they curate our casework and IP.

You will be a Project Leader or Associate Director on BCG’s Expert Consulting track (ECT).  Experts are vital to BCG’s ability to meet our clients’ demand for deep expertise.  You will deliver next-level impact for BCG’s most complex and cutting-edge client challenges, and also focus on developing BCG’s thought leadership and capabilities.

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

YOU BRING (EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS)

The ideal candidate possesses the following skills and attributes:

·       5-10 years of work experience, ideally in topics touching on trends, foresight, risk tracking and management, scenarios, wargaming and/or other elements of building an Uncertainty Advantage

·       2+ years of consulting experience, ideally helping build and grow a business focused on a specific topic

·       The ability to communicate effectively in a range of ways, whether sharing insights about specific trends with clients, drafting white papers, spreading the word of Uncertainty Advantage to other BCGers, and more

·       The ability to juggle a wide range of tasks effectively, working seamlessly with clients and colleagues around the world

In addition, you will work closely with the three existing Global Topic Leaders for Uncertainty Advantage, Megatrends and Scenarios.  As such, there are a variety of ways your skills might complement theirs.  Some preferred skills could include:

·       A deep knowledge of one specific element of uncertainty that is highly relevant in today’s world (e.g. climate uncertainty, cyber risk, geopolitics, or other)

·       A deep industry focus (e.g. healthcare, industrial goods, financial institutions)

·       A deep expertise in facilitation and presentation, whether running senior client workshops generating ideas relating to the future, or the ability to speak compellingly about Uncertainty Advantage in industry or internal fora

·       Knowledge of how to build tools and online platforms to manage uncertainty exposure and build Uncertainty Advantage

·       An understanding of practical creativity and design thinking

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

BCG’s Corporate Finance and Strategy practice is the largest practice within the firm, home to BCG’s biggest business – Corporate Strategy and Value Acceleration.  Uncertainty Advantage, while relevant across industries, makes its home within this broader business, enabling close ties with topics such as growth, strategic planning, and shareholder value.  As such, this expert will work closely with a range of senior BCG stakeholders and help grow a business with all the support that an existing large one provides.  Most directly, this expert will work with:

·       our global topic lead for Uncertainty Advantage, a mining and energy Managing Director

·       our global topic lead for Megatrends, one of the world’s leaders in the realm of trends and foresight

·       our global topic lead for Scenarios and Creativity, a published author who is also on the Expert Career Track

We are leading edge and intend to stay that way – you will be a key part of the team making that happen.
