Practice Area Profile

The Operations Practice (OPS) Area is one of BCG's largest functional practices. We help our clients create competitive advantage by enhancing their performance and building strategic capabilities. BCG’s expertise in Operations covers the following areas - supply chain management, procurement, manufacturing, service operations, cost efficiency, operational transformation, research & product development, program and project management, all with a strong digital and analytics overlay.

Role Profile

BCG is expanding its Regional OPS Centers.  They are currently looking for an expert at the project manager level with significant experience in supply chain strategy and supply chain management.  In particular, the practice is seeking a candidate experienced with the evolving digital tools and capabilities and how they can drive supply chain and manufacturing performance at our clients.  Ideal candidates will have demonstrated leadership in designing supply chain management processes, including demand/supply planning, S&OP, etc., as well as selecting, developing and implementing digital tools (please see further examples below). A qualified individual will play a critical role in enriching firm expertise on this topic, growing the practice, and in bringing this expertise to our clients.

This position reports to the Operations Regional Practice Area Leader for North America.

Responsibilities include:

Contribute to the Business Development of the Supply Chain Topic in the Americas
  • Contributes to leads and proposals together with the partners of the Practice
  • Builds awareness for BCG supply chain competence, as well as SC capabilities in specific industries
  • Contributes to the development of additional business beyond the delivery of recommendations on Client engagements

Build NAMR Operations Center Expertise and increase BCG’s profile externally
  • Improves methodology and tools
  • Participates in key industry / subject matter  forums, including presenting regularly on topics relevant to senior management
  • Participates in recruiting and training efforts

Provide project execution and topic expertise in digital supply chain, including:
  • Work on projects with clients to improve their overall supply chain operations.
  • Activities during projects mainly consist of performing thorough research and analyses (qualitative and quantitative), supporting workshops and leading interviews, synthesizing results into recommendations for our clients, coaching and developing BCG consultants and associates, teaming with our internal Data Scientists on key analytics and tool development, and support clients during the implementation of identified recommendations
  • Act as a true team player in the project team and collaborate with different functions at our client's site: Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Finance, HR, IT, etc.
  • Support the team on further business development activities by helping in developing sales offers, manage relationships with business partners, support in development of articles, marketing plan, events, etc.
  • Coach junior colleagues who start on supply chain projects
  • Be open to international travel and working abroad if your expertise is needed

Our Expert Consulting Track (ECT)

The Expert Consulting Track is vital to BCG’s ability to successfully meet our clients’ demand for deep expertise and advanced technical capabilities. Experts push the boundaries of their topic, deepening and extending BCG’s knowledge. They are driven by a passion to explore and innovate in their field. As part of our consulting cohort, experts work alongside our generalist and specialty consultants to form “one BCG team,” capable of delivering deep strategy and technical expertise. Experts come from diverse backgrounds, with expertise usually gained outside of BCG in either industry, academia, or specialized consulting.

Your Qualifications

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in industry on supply chain operations or a technology supplier to operations, or a combination of industry and consulting experience (preferred), with a focus on the following:
    • Operational Excellence
    • Process industry optimization
    • Production optimization / continuous improvement
    • Availability / reliability
    • End to end project execution support, including training and coaching
    • Logistics, materials management, and warehousing
    • Service level analysis and tracking
    • Inventory level setting and ongoing management
    • S&OP and Integrated Business Planning
    • End to end supply chain system integration
    • Development and deployment of Control Tower technology/capabilty
  • Some focused / deep pockets of expertise, such as in supply chain visibility and analytics, quality system and analytics, or digital tools for manufacturing process improvement.  Examples of relevant experience include:

o   Implementation of supply chain planning tools (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Kinaxis Rapid Response)

o   Implementation of supply chain visibility and collaboration tools (e.g., Elementum, E2Open, FusionOps)

o   Implementation of supply chain optimization tools (e.g., Llamasoft)

o   Implementation of manufacturing and/or quality efficiency and planning tools (e.g., electronic batch records, MES, SmartQC)

o   Familiarity (or Expertise) using Agile methodology to develop software solutions in supply chain setting

o   Development of visibility and/or analytics solutions for supply chain management

o   Development of visibility and/or analytics algorithms leveraging supply chain systems data

o   Application of advanced analytics capabilities such as machine learning and/or AI

o   Familiarity (or Expertise) using modern software development tools (e.g., SQL, Javascript) to develop solutions in supply chain management

  • Established network within supply chain and / or digital / technology players
  • Proven track record of implementation success
