Who We Are

Boston Consulting Group partners with leaders in business and society to tackle their most important challenges and capture their greatest opportunities. BCG was the pioneer in business strategy when it was founded in 1963. Today, we work closely with clients to embrace a transformational approach aimed at benefiting all stakeholders—empowering organizations to grow, build sustainable competitive advantage, and drive positive societal impact.

Our diverse, global teams bring deep industry and functional expertise and a range of perspectives that question the status quo and spark change. BCG delivers solutions through leading-edge management consulting, technology and design, and corporate and digital ventures. We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, fueled by the goal of helping our clients thrive and enabling them to make the world a better place.

Practice Area Profile

BCG’s Industrial Goods practice serves four broad industrial segments: Automotive & Mobility, Engineered Products & Infrastructure, Materials & Process Industries, and Transportation & Logistics. We help companies in these sectors think beyond the limits of their traditional business models, choose where and how they should add value, and reorganize to defend themselves against new threats and explore new opportunities.

What You'll Do

As part of our Industrial Goods practice you will help clients think beyond the limits of traditional business models, reorganize to defend against emerging threats, and seize new opportunities.

Project Leaders play a key role on client engagements, managing studies to define client needs and supervising research activities to obtain relevant data. Project Leaders oversee the formulation of hypotheses for research and investigation, and the advanced financial analysis of client, competitor, and industry data. They apply knowledge of business principles and industrial organization, develop actionable recommendations, and supervise work including strategic due diligence, product development studies, change management plans, and the evaluation of long-term investment opportunities. Acting as the “hub of the wheel” on client engagements, Project Leaders manage work, track progress, delegate, and participate as necessary to keep the project—and everyone involved—moving forward at all times while working with senior clients on the ground every day.

As the senior person most frequently at the client site, Principals interact with the client lead on a day-to-day basis to ensure that expectations are aligned. Principals provide the project management oversight required to meet client expectations. Responsibilities may include the development of presentations, managing of external relationships and consultant work progress, providing status reports, and overseeing budgets.

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

  • 3 to 5+ years of post-graduate school consulting experience supporting clients in the industrial goods space, with 1+ years at a team lead level.
  • Dedicated experience and expertise in one or multiple of the following topics within an industrial goods content (Automotive & Mobility, Engineered Products & Infrastructure, Materials & Process Industries, and Transportation & Logistics).
  • Track record of collaboration with senior executives. Must be comfortable delivering formal presentations to management.
  • Strong management and communication skills. The ability to bring together all stakeholders and persuade senior clients to take action is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills and a high capacity for conceptual thinking. Ability to develop leading edge business models, frameworks for analysis, and long-term business strategies that maximize shareholder value. Must be able to thrive in a hypothesis-based environment where inductive rather than deductive reasoning is the norm.
  • Proven ability to manage client engagements, client relationships, and provide “thought leadership” to teams, owning the responsibility for the quality of engagements.
  • A combination of management and “hands on” delivery experience is critical.
  • A solid track record of building strong client relationships with large organizations, as well as identifying opportunities to deepen those relationships and grow the business.
