What You'll Do

At BCG Platinion we're keen to engage with experienced, passionate and creative IT Architects who will help us unlock our client’s digital potential and ignite change.

As an IT Architect within our technology & digital functional practice aligned to our Principal Investors & Private Equity Practice Area (PIPE) industry practice, you will support top-tier private equity firms to address their most strategic technology questions across the deal lifecycle.

You will get exposure to a unique mix of C-Level (CTO/CIO/CEO), Investment Professionals and BCG network experts on high impact decisions to accelerate your learnings & development journey.

As part of our BCG Platinion consulting team, you will work on a variety of technology topics, applying your architectural consulting skills to strategic technology questions. You will be supported by an extensive training curriculum (the same programme as all BCG consultants), plus technology-specific training and mentoring to help you build your skills.

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

  • 6 to 10 years’ experience in IT strategy and consulting, professional software development or IT project management in a tech related corporate development or start-up.
  • Ability to bring unique tech perspectives from outside the consulting industry into BCG's typical engagements, requiring:
    • A foundation for delivering high-quality written work at pace. Prior experience with consulting’s conventions is helpful (e.g. MECE principle) but alternative transferable skills can also be leveraged (e.g. UI/UX, technical writing or professional editing in areas such as journalism or research).
    • Ability articulate trade-offs, balancing dogmatism & pragmatism to guide decision making.
    • An appetite for driving high-impact technology decisions on topics including (but not limited to) digital transformation, technical architecture, data & integration strategy.
  • Understanding of SDLC processes & DevOps tooling. Experience with programming languages is not required but you must be comfortable leading conversations with engineering managers and software developers.
  • High level of comfort when interpreting conceptual, logical & physical systems designs and a good understanding of how IT landscapes evolve & why infrastructure environments matter. Helpful experience includes:
    • Hands on experience in cloud engineering and/or vendor certifications
    • Time working in ERP programs and knowledge of common pitfalls
    • Approaches to managing technical debt, architecture governance and evolution in practice
  • Battle tested system integration skills (e.g. comprehensive knowledge of patterns, familiarity with ETL or API management tools).
  • Broad coverage of data architecture with some demonstrable depth in at least one area: data science, solution architecture in data intensive settings, complex ETL or mission-critical DBA experience, expansive BI expertise, hands-on experience developing data platforms.
  • It is beneficial to already have experience working within a Merger and Acquisition (M&A) environment, with a focus upon technology due diligence, technology carveout, technology PMI or PE-related value creation initiative with a portfolio company. If these areas are new, a strong understanding if IT/technology financials will provide the foundation.
