We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, fueled by the goal of helping our clients thrive and enabling them to make the world a better place.

Practice Area Profile

BCG’s Financial Institutions Practice Area (FIPA) aims to be the consultant of choice for leaders in the financial industry. We seek to achieve that goal by helping clients find their way amid the ever-evolving, ever-shifting competitive landscape. By focusing on the fundamental economics of their businesses and the underlying needs of their customers, we help banks, brokerages, asset managers and other financial- services organizations rethink their strategic assumptions, identify winning business propositions, and seize new opportunities in the expanding digital environment.

What You'll Do

BCG is growing! We are looking for experienced consultants to join our Financial Institutions (FI) and Insurance Practices at the Project Leader level. Project Leaders play a critical role in enriching our project work in their respective areas of expertise and in bringing forward-thinking solutions to our clients. Ideal candidates will have previous management consulting experience, expertise in FI, Insurance (or both)  and demonstrated leadership in growing client relationships, people, and knowledge development.

You will join a highly entrepreneurial team of consultants dedicated to growing and developing the impact of our Financial Institutions & Insurance Practices. You will be working with clients in retail, business and institutional banking, wealth and asset management, insurance and other financial services sectors to solve their most pressing problems.

You will receive exceptional training, coaching, and mentoring. When you join BCG, you are joining a firm whose culture is distinctive and inclusive. We will accelerate your development as a leader to create positive, enduring change in the world.

A Project Leader has responsibility for the delivery of consulting projects, leading high impact work to drive value for our clients. Project Leaders are typically aligned to one Industry or Functional Practice Area (though may also lead projects outside these Practice Areas on occasion).

  • Leading the day-to-day execution of consulting projects and ensuring successful delivery of client requirements within the scope of the engagement; including:
    • Owning the project planning and process management, and communicating progress to clients and BCG leadership
    • Driving the development of the content, either directly or by providing guidance to the consulting team (for example, by sharing ideas, frameworks or providing input on research and analysis)
    • Managing the client relationship on a day-to-day basis
    • Managing project scope and maintaining an acceptable pace of work
  • Actively managing multiple clients and stakeholder relationships and networking within the client organisation to understand their needs and help to influence the client agenda
  • Leading senior client presentations and meetings
  • Providing apprenticeship and coaching to junior consultants to help develop their consulting skills, including sharing knowledge and experience, giving frequent feedback and creating opportunities for team members to learn and grow
  • Supporting and contributing to other BCG projects, for example by sharing expertise or best practices
  • Contributing to the development of intellectual property within the Practice Area(s), including improving methodologies, tools, techniques and developing new ideas and approaches
  • Contributing to business development efforts, including preparation of proposal documents, and attending pitch presentation

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

  • At least 8 years of experience working with a leading strategy consulting firm (focused on Financial Services/Financial Institutions) or combination of consulting and industry experience within banking, insurance or fintech
  • Experience in leading and managing teams
  • A track record of collaboration with senior executives. You must be comfortable delivering formal presentations to management.
  • Strong management and communication skills. The ability to bring together all stakeholders and persuade senior clients to take action is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills and a high capacity for conceptual thinking. Ability to develop leading edge business models, frameworks for analysis, and long-term business strategies that maximise shareholder value. Must be able to thrive in a hypothesis-based environment where inductive rather than deductive reasoning is the norm.
  • Proven ability to manage client engagements, client relationships and provide “thought leadership” to teams, owning the responsibility for the quality of engagements
  • A combination of management and “hands on” delivery experience is critical
  • A solid track record of building strong client relationships with large organisations, as well as identifying opportunities to deepen those relationships and grow the business
  • A technical degree is nice to have, but not required
  • A degree from a top-tier institution preferred
