What You'll Do
As an Experience Design Director, you will use your skills to:
- Create unique products and culturally relevant solutions to engage users with valuable experiences.
- Communicate and defend the design team’s vision to managing directors, product managers, venture architects, clients, and customers to test and explore venture opportunities.
- Be hands-on in problem-solving with the Strategic Designers, Venture Architects and Product Managers.
- Create design briefs that outline clear design intent for iterations, prioritized concepts, and timelines.
- Foster innovation among members of the design team as well as with other cohorts.
- Help shape the BCG design discourse, engage with the community at a local level and help designers become better practitioners through career and skill development.
- Contribute to an award winning, talent-attracting, and productive design culture in the office, by leading through design activities and through proven and consistent management practices.
- Evolve and guide best practices in the usage of the design patterns, frameworks, tools, and processes.
- Support the team in a hands-on manner as they construct rapid interactive prototypes that illustrate features with micro-interactions, behaviors, and transitions as appropriate, that present a realistic feel of the intended experience.
- Liaise with the Engineering and Go-To-Market teams during the incubation and commercialization phases as the venture matures.
- Anticipate the needs of a highly functional teaming culture in ways that align with BCG values.
What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)
- 13-20 years experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a leadership role with direct reports.
- A background in product prototyping and testing, future visioning and strategy development in a client facing environment.
- Expert knowledge of research methods and frameworks, user interface standards, tools and industry guidelines.
- The ability to reference best practices and design patterns and can solve complex problems and novel interface challenges.
- Deep understanding of user experience design principles and best practices with the experience and judgement to question convention when appropriate.
- Visual communication skills, using sketching and other tools to articulate thoughts about complex problems, datasets or experimentation.
- Expert knowledge and demonstrated experience with a broad range of tools or technologies, including Figma, Sketch, InVision, Principle, Framer, Adobe XD or similar prototyping tools and AfterEffects.
- Expertise in prototyping and testing, future visioning and strategy development.
- A strong portfolio of work that demonstrates strong human centres design capabilities and core craft-skills across a variety of clients and industries showing process, methodologies and success.
- Strong experience working within Agile / SCRUM methodologies.
- Strong experience in translating user research and usability test findings into iterative product solutions.
- Demonstrated experience in research techniques and strategic / service design techniques.
- Highly passionate about design balanced with pragmatic approach to dealing with clients.
- Know-how to driver operational and client service excellence, presenting project results to C-Level.
- Have the power of presence to network and build internal and external trusted relationships and new business development.
- Proven practice development; building UX/design centres of excellence, hiring, mentoring and developing both individuals and teams.
- Experience leading teams of designers embedded in multidisciplinary teams (Designers, Engineers, Product Owners, Architects) within a fast-paced environment.
- Able to drive a design team function end-to-end (establish design culture, develop talent, provide direction, establish sustainable pace for team’s work, ensure on—time delivery of design team’s output and projects).
- Experience of writing white papers on your areas of expertise.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. An excellent communicator (verbally and written) with confidence and experience in public speaking.
- Organizational skills, self-motivation and resourcefulness coupled with a creative mind-set, presence and gravitas.
- Outgoing, personable, sociable and easy-going.
- Ability to work under pressure and willingness to travel to clients’ world-wide.
- A Bachelor or Master’s degree with above average academic performance in a design related discipline such as: Interaction Design, Interface Design, Human Computer Interaction, Service Design, Design Planning, Strategy or other relevant experience.
