We work in a uniquely collaborative model across the firm and throughout all levels of the client organization, fueled by the goal of helping our clients thrive and enabling them to make the world a better place.

Practice Area Profile

The Operations Practice (OPS) Area is one of BCG's largest functional practices. We help our clients create competitive advantage by enhancing their performance and building strategic capabilities. BCG’s expertise in Operations covers the following areas - supply chain management, procurement, manufacturing, service operations, cost efficiency, operational transformation, research & product development, program and project management, all with a strong digital and analytics overlay.

What You'll Do

Do you have profound experience and expertise in optimizing the operating model of financial institutions? Would you like to support industry leaders and decision makers in achieving operational excellence? Can you help our clients enhance their performance and build new capabilities to succeed? Are you able to lead dedicated teams in a dynamic project environment? Then you could be our new Principal, Project Leader, or Consultant for our Operations in Financial Institutions team in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

As part of our team, you will advise clients on key strategic business issues, produce innovative operating models with your project team, address specific problems and opportunities, and implement sustainable solutions.

As part of our OPS in FI team, you’ll be the backbone of our client work and business development. You will lead or work with (multiple) project teams (depending on your seniority) during client engagements, interact regularly and build relations with senior clients, prepare studies to investigate client needs, and develop cutting-edge new products and services.

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

To succeed in this role, you have worked in the financial industry and/or at a top-level consultancy. But most importantly, you can already show impressive results from prior projects to improve or transform the operating model of financial institutions. Your deep knowledge allows you to analyze and interpret data through a business and economic lens—and to successfully advise international clients. In addition, it is important that you offer the following:

·         You have experience leading projects in the operating model space for financial institutions (retail, corporate, capital markets, payments, asset or wealth management, financial services provider, etc.).

·         You have spent at least three to five years working at a top-tier consulting firm and have gained project experience in the financial institutions industry, or you have spent at least five years in the financial institutions industry in operations(-related) or transformational functions.

·         You understand the key operating model aspects and processes of financial institutions and have ideally gained experience on different optimization projects.

·         You can lead teams and interactions with client teams during projects.

·         It would be a plus if you are an active contributor to the industry—e.g., if you participate in associations, are published, or are curious about industry trends (e.g., fintechs, new platform businesses, new technologies such as blockchain, etc.).

·         You are fluent in German and English.

·         You are passionate about leading and/or working with teams, comfortable making decisions, and able to assume responsibility for high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced project environment.

·         You are able to collaborate with senior executives and deliver formal management presentations.

·         You have strong management and communication skills that allow you to bring together divergent client stakeholders and convince senior clients to take action.

·         You bring strong analytical skills and a high capacity for structured, conceptual thinking. You are also able to thrive in a hypothesis-based environment where inductive rather than deductive reasoning is the norm.

·         You have a proven ability to provide thought leadership and to be passionate about developing new (consulting) products or services.

You’ll collaborate with BCG team members from many backgrounds and disciplines in a team-oriented, relationship-driven environment. Working alongside experienced, driven, and talented colleagues on projects that reshape financial institutions, you’ll be able to develop your professional and personal skills faster and more profoundly than anywhere else. At the same time, you’ll partner with senior clients as their trusted advisor and work at all levels of the client organization to find and execute value creation strategies that result in meaningful, enduring impact.

·         An unparalleled environment to develop your professional and personal skills

·         The opportunity to shape the development of the financial industry by advising senior executives

·         A growth-oriented team that rewards top performance and entrepreneurial spirit

·         A highly attractive and performance-based compensation and benefits package, including a competitive pension, insurance, social security, and child benefit components

·         Flexible work models, including remote work and part-time solutions

·         Generous vacation and leave of absence opportunities

·         Access to a highly active local office community, including social events, sports, and other activities

·         Discounts on goods and services in your local area, including gym memberships
