Practice Area Profile

The Global Advantage is one of BCG's core functional practice areas with a unique commercial offering and a long tradition of cutting-edge thought leadership. Being at the crossroads of emerging and mature markets, we work with our clients to unlock unparalleled business opportunities offered by globalization while mastering the challenges of disruption. We help clients not only build sizable international footprints but also maximize their potential in the face of global disruptive forces such as rapidly changing markets, geopolitical environment, rising local competitors as well as shifting customer behavior and preferences. In our daily work, we enable our clients to transform their organization in order to win globally.

What You'll Do

WHAT WE NEED
BCG is looking for an Expert Associate Director to help our clients drive new value creating opportunities through collaborating in Joint Ventures, Alliances, and participating in Digital Ecosystems (JADE). The ideal candidate will have substantial practical experience in building, operating, governing, and managing Digital Ecosystems (DEs), JV, and alliances, as well as deep expertise in technology platforms and data sharing frameworks underlying DEs.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Working across our Global Advantage (GA) Practice, our Transaction & Integration Excellence (TIE) initiative, and BCG’s Digital Ventures and Platinion businesses, you will partner with leading companies to develop and implement classical and digitally enabled collaboration strategies and corporate structures, and also build capabilities and tools that generate impact for clients.

As technologies make an increasing number of products ‘smart’ and customers demand customized user experiences and solutions, our clients must work with a far wider range of partners to pull together the underlying technologies, applications, software platforms, and services needed for an integrated solution. You will help clients identify the right collaboration model and role they can play, and guide them through the steps required to identify and engage the right partners as well as define and implement the value proposition and value sharing mechanisms.

In this role, you will support the acquisition and execution of multiple client engagements, bringing JADE expertise to the team, both on industry-specific issues and with respect to key client questions. You will direct and supervise research activities to obtain relevant data and define client needs and challenges. Working alongside BCG and client project leaders, you will contribute expertise, synthesize recommendations, challenge work in progress, and re-orient analyses as necessary. You will also drive commercial growth by supporting colleagues in their business development activities, originating leads and acting as a key topic content lead for proposals or other business development work in the JADE topic space.

You will also build JADE expertise within BCG, and increase the firm’s external profile by creating new techniques and/or capturing ideas that strengthen our thought leader position, publishing and posting on the topic, and building repeatable toolkits for use by BCG project teams.

Our Expert Consulting Track (ECT)

The Expert Consulting Track (ECT) is vital to BCG’s ability to successfully meet our clients’ demand for deep expertise and advanced technical capabilities. Experts deliver next-level impact for BCG's most complex and cutting-edge client challenges. Experts focus on developing BCG's thought leadership, commercial capabilities, and intellectual property assets; and their work is essential to our delivery model. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team to bring the ‘best of BCG’ to our clients, Experts come from diverse backgrounds, with expertise often gained outside of BCG in industry, academia, or specialized consulting.

What You'll Bring (Experience & Qualifications)

  • 7+ years of industry and/or consulting experience (preferred) with a focus on Digital Ecosystems, JVs, and Alliances.
  • Demonstrated experience in building Digital Ecosystems and related business model innovation, developing DE and JV/alliance strategy, identifying partners for DEs and JV/As, implementing partnership agreements (multiple deal types: DE, JV, alliances) with partners across multiple industries and geographies; on-boarding and separating from partners; and developing, implementing, and running collaboration governance and value sharing mechanisms.
  • Familiar with technology platforms underlying DEs (e.g., AWS, Azure) – you designed (but not necessarily engineered), adapted, deployed such platforms in a multi-partner DE context.
  • Keen interest in practices, technologies, and regulations applying to company collaborations including but not limited to data sharing and data protection
  • Strong interest and demonstrated skill in collaborating across company boundaries and functions. Must be able to understand and employ a variety of frameworks and tools to study collaboration structures, develop frameworks and hypotheses, quantify strategic options, and assess their effectiveness.
  • Graduate degree in business, technology, law, or graduate of a leading business school a plus
